Tea, D&D.

Yesterday: Caught the bus into Norwich, had a quick browse in HMV, bimbled in the direction of the Forum. Had tea, chatted with Mary about moving, character creation, and her own role-playing game, which sounds very interesting indeed. Headed to Ottakar's, chatted with Dave, Dave and Charlie for a bit, started the game.

Overall, it went rather well. Dave rolled an entertaining series of 1's, resulting in his misidentifying a gibbering mouther as a mind flayer. Given he's the only person in the party with Knowledge (Dungeoneering), this might lead to some interesting situations in the future... The party as a whole, and Lolly in particular, seem to have decided that making explosives is the way forwards, alchemist's fire no longer being enough for their destructive impulses. Given that she can make DC 25 Craft (Alchemy) check with regularity, I'm worried...

Not sure if I'll be in Norwich for the next game or not, as it might fall across the possible ghost-hunting trip Jon's planning.

Walked and talked with Dave for a bit, then headed to Andrew's. Managed not to get lost, and am now reasonably confident in my ability to find it again. My sense of direction within Norwich is starting to improve somewhat. Saw Katie and Ian as well, and Katie's very cute new iPod. Chatted about various things, before settling on the topics of BFG and Andrew's various games projects. Also briefly picked Andrew's brains (mmmm, brains...) about networks and broadband ISPs. Headed back to Castle Meadow, caught the bus home.

Quiet evening, did some more work on my assignment, found some more L7 tracks. Headed to bed.

Today: Got up, more work on assignment, more music (L7. Magenta and Jennifer Paige). I'm going to go and find some lunch now.

Aha, thanks Nat. Once you're back in Norwich, I'll take you up on that offer :-)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
For crying out loud, RiotGrrl is only worth listening to if you want an example of poor mixing and unimaginative playing, whilst I can't fault to emotion behind it I do feel the energy could be better spent making stuff you can actually listen to without feeling sorry for the people who made the instruments.

On the Ghost hunting subject I should be checking if I'll have the car tomorrow but Dave has had to drop out which just leaves us, I could do with another team member and Andrew has so far only said maybe unfortunetly. Unsure as to how exactly to proceed.

Riot Grrl, or the ghost hunting trip? :-D

Hmm, not sure I agree with that. It's a variable genre of music, certainly, but there's plenty of works of merit to be found within. My thoughts so far...

Bikini Kill: Can't play, can't sing, too much effort to listen to (admittedly based off only two tracks).

Babes In Toyland: Not the deepest music I've ever heard, but very fun to listen to loud.

L7: Good musicianship, good singer, good songs, overall much goodness. Bricks Are Heavy > Smell the Magic > Hungry for Stink (again, off about two tracks from each album).

As for the ghost hunting trip, it's starting to look like postponement might have to be the order of the day. *Shrugs* Shame about Dave's sudden employment, as he was really rather enthusiastic about the whole idea yesterday.

Lacking spontaneous combustive employment, I'm good for the ghost hunting. Though a list of things that I'll need would be advantagous.

Mmmm, firy death...

couldn't the rest of the party just take intelegence checks to work out that the dungeoneerer is an idiot? :)

Not really. The gibbering mouthers are the first aberrations the party's met in game, and Knowledge (Dungeoneering) is the skill that cover such beasties. As far as the party is concerned, their expert has conclusively identified the creatures they've been fighting as mind flayers.

Of course, some of this is just me being an evil DM rather than anything else, but it was so much fun to watch all the players sitting there looking puzzled by what Dave was telling them.

Quick question. Do you make the player's dice rolls then give them the info, or let them roll and thus know if they've passed or failed?

For yesterday's game, the players were rolling. Fortunately, no-one other than Dave saw his roll, and hence the misinformation he was spreading was taken as truth, at least to start with. I'm starting to think about rolling all Knowledge checks myself, just to add more of this kind of fun to the game :-)

Of course, I also have the problem of having two players in this game who've been playing D&D since 1st Edition. They tend to be able to pick out monsters from their descriptions, even if I don't name them. Fortunately, everyone's a good enough role-player to separate IC and OoC information.
